2018 - Fancy Lettering & Fairground Art Workshop
This action-packed weekend offers a rare opportunity to learn about the secretive craft of fairground painting, including fancy lettering. There will be demonstrations of techniques and styles, and an opportunity to get hands-on and practice your fairground flourishes.
The workshop will cover Block Lettering • The 3D effect • Understanding shadows • Gold leaf & gilding • Flamboyant painting • Blending • Lining • Scrolls • Marbling • Colour combinations and more.
You will be provided with a board to practice on, brushes and paint for the duration of the workshop. If you would like to paint a board to take home with you, coachpainted boards will be available to buy. There will also be the opportunity to buy your own equipment at the end of the workshop to take home and practice. You are welcome to bring something with you to paint, as long as it will feasibly fit in the workshop and doesn't need a fork lift to move it!
If you have a particular piece of fancy lettering or decoration that you would like to replicate during the workshop, please send it to us in advance so Joby can have a look at what you want to achieve.
The courses are held in Joby's paintshop at the Carters Steam Fair Yard, in White Waltham near Maidenhead.
This workshop runs from 9am till 5pm both days. Lunch and hot drinks are provided.
Please wear old clothes that you don't care about - you will get painty!
We regret that we can't provide accommodation at the Yard for you, but we can recommend the B&B at Innings Lane, White Waltham - tel. 01628 826789. There is also a Holiday Inn at Shoppenhangers Road. Unfortunately we cannot provide space for caravans or mobile homes in the Yard; it's a busy working fairground yard and we are moving vehicles around a lot. We recommend visiting the Caravan Club to find local campsites.
The workshop costs £190 + VAT
Saturday 27th January 2018 @ 09:00 - Sunday 28th January 2018 @ 17:00
